Sound Body Sound Mind, a foundation started by Palisadians Cindy and Bill Simon in 1999, has installed fitness centers and programs in nearly 100 Los Angeles Unified School District middle and high schools.
This year SBSM celebrated with its “2014 Phantom Gala” fundraiser where the four people who run the foundation, as well as several other fitness enthusiasts including Palisadians Frank Baxter and Dr. Ernie Prudente, announced to run in The Great Wall Marathon.
Fifteen foundation members traveled to Beijing, China and on May 17, they participated in the marathon, deemed one of the world’s toughest marathons on the extremely hilly course along The Great Wall. It also runs through villages, the countryside and then back to The Great Wall steps.
Cindy Simon said the rationale behind a Phantom Gala is, instead of attending a costly gala, people can support the foundation and its mission toward improving student health and fitness by staying at home and making a donation.
