After finishing second behind Venice in the Western League, the Palisades High baseball team has been seeded 17th in the City Section Division I playoffs and travels to No. 16 Marshall for a wildcard game Thursday at noon.
“I was very surprised we got seeded that low, but we had opportunities throughout the season to strengthen our position and we didn’t get the job done,” Coach Mike Voelkel said. “We put extra pressure on ourselves by not being sound offensively. We’ll need to rectify that to advance.”
Should Palisades (14-13) beat the Barristers, it will travel to top-seeded Chatsworth in the first round Tuesday. The Dolphins were eliminated by Chatsworth in the first round last year after beating Sylmar at home in the wildcard round.
Marshall (19-11) finished undefeated in the Northern League but went 1-3 against Western League opponents, losing to Venice (twice) and University and defeating LACES.
