Minutes after Saturday’s 7-1 defeat at Camarillo in the Redondo Tournament, Palisades High baseball coach Mike Voelkel reminded his team that three games remain in the regular season and all of them matter.
“We have to concentrate on what we can control… and that’s beating Westchester,” he said. “If we do that, we have a chance to win league. We also want a winning record to improve our playoff seed.”

The Dolphins (12-12) began the week in second place in the Western League, one game behind Venice. Palisades wraps up Redondo Tournament play Saturday morning at Torrance, then has a home-and-home series against Westchester next Tuesday (at George Robert Field) and Thursday (at Westchester).
Alex Weiner doubled and scored on a grounder by Leo Bucksbaum in the last inning for Palisades’ only run against Camarillo. Henry Coquillard had three hits, Justin Hirschberg added one and Augie Sylk struck out the side in the fourth. Will Bucksbaum induced a 5-2-3 double play to escape a bases-loaded jam in the fifth.
The Dolphins blanked Fairfax 11-0 in six innings and 10-0 in five innings last week. In the first game, Hirschberg had six strikeouts, Roben Sieling had three hits, Matt Silvera had two hits and three stolen bases, Benji Taylor had two hits and Harrison Hart added two hits and two RBIs. In the second game, Sieling allowed one hit with no walks in four innings pitched.
The City Section Division I seeding meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 9 at Maywood Academy.
