Palisadian-Owned Lucas Browning Design Moves to Sunset Boulevard Space

If undertaking a home project is on your list of things to accomplish in 2024, consider Lucas Browning Design—which recently moved to new digs at 15221 West Sunset Boulevard in Pacific Palisades.
“Lucas Browning Design is a design studio specializing in full-service furnishing projects throughout the greater Los Angeles area,” according to its website. “Led by Heather Lucas and Katie Browning, our team creates homes that are designed for the distinct way that you live. Each space is a curated haven of inspiration, comfort and calm.”
Setting up shop in the Palisades was a natural fit for Lucus and Browning, who have lived in the community since 2012 and 2009, respectively. Lucas lives in the Alphabet Streets, in a house that was one of the original 25 homes built in the Palisades in 1924, she shared. Browning started in a home on Swarthmore before moving off the top of Bienveneda.
Before moving to Sunset, they operated out of a Via De La Paz office, which the two said they had since outgrown, with the team expanding to include four additional employees.
“We just needed more space and we needed something that was good for getting the creative juices flowing,” Lucas said. “We needed room to keep all of our samples, we wanted a space where we could host the community.”
After six months of building it out, Lucas Browning Design celebrated the opening of the new space with a party open to clients and the community in December, which was attended by about 150 guests, they said.
Recent projects completed by Lucas Browning Design include spaces on Galloway, Hartzell and Winding Way, with an Idaho lake cabin and De Pauw Street space expected to be completed in February, followed by Maroney, Temecula and Manhattan Beach in spring.
Lucas and Browning operate with the mission that “intentionality is the root of great design.” They aim to curate a space “with effortless functionality, longevity and timeless style,” which “requires thoughtful attention to detail and intimate knowledge of the lives lived there.”
After meeting through mutual friends, the two have been designing homes together since 2013.
Browning, who has a background in business, had a “front-row seat” to the world of design dating back to when she was a child and her mother renovated Channel Road Inn—an experience she said had a “profound impact” on her, eventually inspiring her to co-found her own studio after returning to the workforce after having three kids.
Lucas, a former lawyer and Pepperdine Law School graduate, said she entered the world of design after having two kids 15 months apart, returning to work when they were toddlers. She “channels both her creative and operational expertise” through her design work.
The two said they guide clients to “create their own definition of home” by working closely with homeowners to “distill their vision for their best life in their space.” The process includes a proposal, planning and installation.
“These values become the framework of their bespoke concept as we handpick each tone, textile and tangible element to fit seamlessly into your life and aesthetic,” they wrote. “Once you have approved your custom design plan, our team is available to implement it in your space, styling every detail for beautiful living. This includes sourcing, purchasing and placing the accessories that add interest, warmth and character to your home.”
Browning said they focus on what clients can do with their homes with furnishings, wall coverings, window treatments, etc.: “You can truly transform a space, paying attention to those elements as opposed to necessarily having to start completely from scratch.”
Lucas shared that their philosophy is that clients can have a “beautiful space” that works with the family, including having young children or pets.
“You don’t have to sacrifice style in order to make something durable for young children,” Lucas said. “Most of our clients love to entertain, most of our clients love to travel. We really try to take what their passions are, and take the fact that they have children and pets, and we try to create something beautiful for them that they can be proud of and that really represents them.”
