Lili Singer will discuss ‘Smart Gardening for the 21st Century’ on Tuesday, November 28, 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the library of Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church (Sunset and El Medio), in an event organized by Palisades Cares. She will discuss planning, planting and maintaining a resource- conserving low-maintenance landscape that is colorful and bountiful, and also discuss planting options for the various microclimates of the Palisades. Singer, a horticulturist, garden consultant and garden writer whose work appears regularly in the Los Angeles Times, has been coordinating the Thursday Morning Seminars at the L.A. County Arboretum since January 2004. These are participatory seminars for serious and enthusiastic Southern California gardeners and garden designers. The next session will start in January 2007. Singer was also the editor and publisher of The Southern California Gardener and The Gardener’s Companion, two award-winning guides to gardening in Southern California. Sponsors for the evening lecture include Palisades Beautiful, Merrihew’s Sunset Nursery, Josie Tong and others. Admission is free, although reservations are requested; call 459-1614.
