When the internationally renowned design group Building Solutions & Design first saw the 1957 ranch-style house in Marquez Knolls, they knew they had found the perfect site. The team architect, Nadav Rokach, his builder brother David Rokach and David’s wife, interior designer Eliana Rokach – all felt that the serene setting of the site, which affords forever views and a wide lot, would allow for a one-of-a-kind house.
Months of meticulous attention to detail ultimately resulted in a complete re-imagining of the residence, transforming it into a mid-century modern masterpiece. The team fused the highest-quality architectural styling with enough warm wood to create a truly spectacular home with universal appeal. As the remodel progressed the design team kept making refinements, finding ways to enhance the look and functionality of the four-bedroom, three and a half bath home. Taking center stage in the residence are two open-air atria that fill the expansive living area with light. They add to the indoor-outdoor flow that lends a resort-like feeling to the home.
Stepping into the home the eye is immediately drawn through the two glass-enclosed atria all the way back to the grassy backyard and endless views. Fleetwood doors smoothly slide open to allow access to one of the atria and a set of floating white rift oak wood stairs that lead to a nearly 1,600-square-foot rooftop deck. Exceptional for entertaining, the deck offers panoramic 360-degree views of ocean, mountains and trees as well as a double-sided fireplace, a hot tub and space for an outdoor kitchen.
The single-level home’s contemporary yet warm kitchen boasts custom cabinetry, soft-close drawers and a recessed exhaust. Bathed in a neutral color palette that includes taupes, grays and creams, the state-of-the-art kitchen features top-of-the-line Miele appliances, including a built-in espresso/cappuccino maker for easy everyday living. In terms of functionality, the design team created everything with convenience in mind. All heating, air, lighting and security controls are located on wall pads that can be operated via smartphone. The Lutron wall panels also allow the lighting to be controlled from one switch.
When it came to the details in this home, the design team spared no expense, going above and beyond what’s expected in most high-end residences. In the master bathroom, his-and-hers sinks are topped with Calacutta Supreme marble, one of the most expensive types of marble available. A transom window and rainforest showerhead in the generous-sized shower add to the home’s vacation spa-like feel.
From the day this home went on the market, it has been generating so much interest that it may herald a new trend in architectural styling for the Palisades.
