After three years as principal at Marquez Elementary School, Emily Williams is moving on at the end of the school year for a new administrative position within the Los Angeles Unified School District.
In the May 18 Friends of Marquez newsletter, Williams submitted the following statement:
“Serving the students and families of Marquez Charter Elementary School for the last three years has been an incredible experience. I’ve accepted another position for the 2014-2015 school year. The district has asked that I not share any details at this time. Moving forward, I am committed to making sure the transition is smooth. I am confident the new principal will continue to lead Marquez through these exciting times in education.”
LAUSD spokesman Thomas Waldman said the search for Williams’ replacement is beginning and the school community will have input on the process.
“We wish her well,” said Bridget Guy, co-president of the Friends of Marquez, an education non-profit serving the community.
She said they are forming a search committee for the new principal, which will have three parents on it.
“We want the best fit for Marquez,” Guy added. “We’ll take our time.” She said the position has been posted and will remain posted for a minimum of two weeks.
According to the school’s charter, parents who are interested in serving on the search committee will be asked to submit a letter of interest to the school’s personnel committee of its governing board. The governing board will ultimately approve them.
Parents interested in serving on the search committee must be current Marquez parents, sign confidentiality agreements to abide by the recruitment process and be available for recruitment training and throughout the summer vacation to ensure the search process is not hampered, according to Guy.
