Annie Wendorf and Alyssa Wallin must have slept well on the trip back from the Amateur Softball Association’s Western National Championships.
The Palisadians played 10 games in four days, including five games in one day, to help the Santa Monica 12-and-under Gold Fastpitch Softball team finish fifth out of 44 teams at the double-elimination tournament in Roseville.
Wendorf played left field and first base and Wallin played shortstop and center field for Santa Monica, which went 3-1 in pool play and 7-3 overall despite playing two of the top three seeded teams. Saturday proved to be survival of the fittest, as Santa Monica won four games in 100-degree heat.
The team’s impressive finally ended Saturday night when Santa Monica was held to two hits by Los Alamitos. Both girls are entering eighth grade, Wendorf at Harvard-Westlake and Wallin at Paul Revere Middle School.
