Three Palisades High golfers finished in the top 10 at Thursday’s City 3 League finals, but none of them will be playing in the City Section finals Monday at Balboa Golf Course.
The Dolphins finished second overall with their cumulative score of 581 over 18 holes at Balboa, finishing six shots behind LACES and 18 ahead of third-place Venice.
Miya Eberlein shot a 103 (30 shots over par) to finish third overall while her sister Sophia Eberlein shot a 113 (40 over par) for seventh place and Izzy Simmons fired a 115 (42 over par) for ninth to lead the Dolphins in their first season since Coach James Paleno restored the program in January.
However, in order to qualify for the City finals individuals must score 15 over par or better over nine holes during league play and teams must consistently shoot 215 for nine holes during league play, thus leaving the Dolphins on the outside looking in.
“In past years, 44 girls qualified for the City finals, which would’ve meant that at least four of our girls would’ve made it, but this year they’re following a strict interpretation and everyone had to shoot an average of 15-over par or better for nine holes to qualify,” Paleno explained. “In fact, LACES doesn’t even get to advance as a team even though they won our league. Only two teams (Granada Hills and North Hollywood) even had qualifying scores.”
Maury Marin (122), Camila Paleno (128), Carly Weitz (132) and Sarah Maninger (164) rounded out the scores for Palisades.
