Josephine DeBry Washburn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Halbert Sullivan Washburn of Pacific Palisades, made her debut at The 60th International Debutante Ball on Dec. 29, 2014, in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
Josephine graduated from St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire, and is currently attending Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Her passion for travel and languages has sparked her love of fashion, and she recently completed an internship with the renowned stylist and fashion editor, Mary Alice Haney. Josephine volunteers her time at local thrift stores, combining her strong fashion sense with a strong sense of service to her community.
For her debut, Josephine chose to wear Vera Wang’s “Katherine” gown which features a tiered ruffled ballgown skirt and chapel length train.
The International Debutante Ball, founded in 1954, is considered one of the most prestigious debutante presentations. Young women of distinction from all over the country and around the globe are brought together at the ball and the surrounding parties with daughters of Diplomats, titled Europeans, Ambassadors, Governors and Presidents of the United States.
The ball benefits numerous charities through the International Debutante Ball Foundation, including one of its major beneficiaries, the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard and Airmen’s Club of New York, which provides a home away from home for the men and women of our Armed Services.
