ADT Security Patrol Manager Aaron Sias, head of security for the Palisades Highlands community, evacuated and blockaded the Summit Club after a mountain lion was seen near the tennis courts around 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17.
A childminder with two young children was trying to shoo away the 90-pound mountain lion, but did not realize what it was, according to Sias.
An onsite Summit Club employee reported the sighting to ADT Patrol, awaited their response and then witnessed ADT Patrol evacuate the premises.
Sias contacted park rangers and the California Fish & Wildlife warden, who said if the lion is not behaving in an aggressive manner to let the mountain lion finish resting and leave.
The lion left the premises later.
The Summit Club re-opened the following morning after posting notices throughout the premises warning members of the mountain lion sighting at the club and to enter at their own risk.
