The trees on Monument Street are now dressed and ready for the rest of Women’s History Month.
The “yarn bomb” of 33 trees, organized by Palisadian Michelle Villemaire, was postponed from Saturday, March 5 to Tuesday, March 8 on account of predicted rain.
Each tree is dedicated to a different woman in history, including one covered in roses (pictured) for Rose Gilbert and another one dedicated to Nancy Reagan.
As Karyn Newbill put the finishing touches on a knitted shark around a tree, she explained that sharks are her favorite marine animals.
Newbill teaches knitting and marine biology at Palisades Charter High School, and said that this project brought together her two interests.
After a couple of weeks the yarn will be taken down and turned into blankets to donate to a local shelter dedicated to helping women and their families transition out of homelessness.
