The Palisades High baseball team was hoping the third time would be the charm against Chatsworth pitcher Josh Garcia.
Instead, the Chancellors’ senior ace frustrated the Dolphins for six innings and his offense did the rest in a 10-0 first-round victory Tuesday that knocked Palisades out of the City Section Division I playoffs.
“We’ve seen Garcia for three years in a row and they didn’t do anything we didn’t expect, in fact we scouted them perfectly,” Palisades head coach Mike Voelkel said. “They executed when they had to and we just couldn’t get hits in key situations. That’s been the story of our season. Still, I’m extremely proud of my team.”
It marked the third straight time Chatsworth eliminated Palisades. In 2014, the Chancellors rallied for a 3-2 win in the semifinals at USC and last spring, again behind Garcia, they beat the Dolphins 7-2 in the first round.
Andrew Renteria’s two-run double got the top-seeded Chancellors on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning. Nick Henry tripled to score two runs and another run scored on a groundout in the third to make it 5-0. Chatsworth added five runs in the sixth to end the game.
Palisades finished the season 15-14.
