As the regular season winds down, it’s all about positioning for the Palisades High softball team.
The Dolphins defeated Hamilton 11-4 Thursday to strengthen their hold on second place, but need help from other schools to catch defending champion Venice in the Western League race.
Palisades began this week two games behind the Gondoliers with three left. The Dolphins also hope to sweep this Saturday’s Spring Fling doubleheader against VAAS and Chavez at San Gabriel High.
The Dolphins jumped out to a 3-0 lead at Hamilton and tacked on four more runs in the fourth to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
Alyssa Wallin had three hits and three RBIs, Sasha Vanley had two hits and three RBIs and Cienna Henry Milton added two hits and two RBIs as the Dolphins out-hit the Yankees 12-2. Pitcher Gretel Payne had nine strikeouts and didn’t allow a hit in four and two-thirds innings.
Henry Milton had an RBI double and Lindsey Chapman and Rachel Phillips each singled in Saturday’s 6-1 loss to Chatsworth in the Lincoln Classic. Later, Chapman and Wallin got the Dolphins’ only hits in a 9-0 loss to Harvard-Westlake.
