Now the “real” season starts for the Palisades High varsity football team, which hosts University in its Western League opener on Friday night at Stadium by the Sea.
The Dolphins, who earned a share of the league title with Venice last fall, have won four straight games since dropping their season opener Aug. 26 to Sierra Canyon.
Under first-year head coach John Washington, the Wildcats (2-3) are coming off a 49-0 loss at Oaks Christian, one of the top teams in the Southern Section’s Pac-5 Division. University went 0-5 to finish last in league last season.
The Dolphins haven’t lost to University since 2007 under former coach Kelly Loftus. In its three meetings with the Wildcats under current coach Tim Hyde, Palisades has won by an average margin of 22 points.
Hyde believes this the most competitive the league has been in his four seasons at Palisades.
“It’s the league opener and everything we’ve done before is in the past now,” Hyde said. “We are all 0-0.”
The JV game kicks off at 4 p.m. tomorrow, followed by the varsity game at 7.
