One year ago, Justin Hirschberg was the ace of the Palisades High baseball team’s pitching staff. Now, he is a freshman at Occidental College in Eagle Rock and the crafty left-hander saw a familiar face in the opposite dugout in last weekend’s three-game series with Pomona-Pitzer—that of former Dolphins teammate Cade Hulse, a first-team All-City pitcher and Palisadian-Post Cup winner in 2014.
Hulse, now a senior first baseman for the Sagehens, belted a home run and two RBIs in Pomona-Pitzer’s 5-2 win on Friday. Occidental swept Saturday’s doubleheader, 12-2 and 10-9, but Hulse had two hits and scored one run.
Hirschberg has 15 strikeouts in 22.1 innings pitched.
