Palisadian Dr. Kim Schrier surpassed her Democratic opponent in the 8th Congressional District primary in the state of Washington and will go head-to-head against Republican Dino Rossi in November.
“I am honored and humbled to be your Democratic nominee for Washington’s 8th Congressional District! Thank you!” Schrier said after her win in a Facebook post. “Now more than ever, we need leaders with the political courage to speak truth to power, leaders who will stand up for the most vulnerable and bring our voices to the other Washington.”
Schrier, who is a homegrown Palisadian, told the Palisadian-Post she never intended on having a career in politics, but felt compelled to get involved after President Trump won in 2016.
“Just looking at the corruption and chaos of this administration, I think most people would agree that we need some checks and balances,” she said to the Post in an April interview.
After her husband, who she met at her 10-year Palisades Charter High School reunion, encouraged her to run, she has seen nothing but success in a district that has never elected a Democrat for Congress.
Now, after winning the primary race by 1 percent, she said looks forward to making history, as well as bringing forth change.
“Every day, we read new headlines about chaos and corruption in the White House, and watch as the Republican-held Congress sits by and does nothing to help families and workers in our district,” Schrier said in a statement.
Her win would be just another drop in the bucket of a Republican-feared “blue wave” to take back congressional majority.
