PPCC Unanimously Passes Motion Calling for LA River Flood Protection Measures | Pacific Palisades
At its April 11 board meeting, the Pacific Palisades Community Council unanimously passed a motion calling for a coordinated effort between Los Angeles County, the city of Los Angeles and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to establish flood protection measures for the Los Angeles River.
The motion requests that the city and county of Los Angeles ask Congress to authorize funding for a Flood Risk Management feasibility study to be conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The motion was recommended by the Westside Regional Alliance of Councils and modified by the board before passing.
PPCC requested that the county “study options to reduce the impact of flood, the costs of which will largely be borne by taxpayers.”
Proposed actions include removing sediment build-up, reducing hardscape (parking lots, building footprints), expanding open spaces, and strengthening dams and levees. The motion also urges these agencies to evaluate land use along the LA River for recreational use and public access.
