Several hundred community members filled Will Rogers State Historic Park for the first-ever “Polo To Empower – Rock N Polo” fundraiser hosted by Teen Cancer America on Saturday, June 15.
Featuring musical performances, celebrity guests, raffle prizes and several food options, the event aimed to raise funds for programs for young people with cancer while bringing a British sport to the last remaining polo field in Los Angeles.
Teen Cancer America—founded by rock musicians Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend of The Who in 2012—hosted close to a dozen vendors, including Palisadian favorites like Caffe Luxxe and Serendipity Flowers LA.
Musical guests included cancer survivor Harry Hudson and bollywood star Neetu Chandra.
The family-friendly event further included polo lessons, hand massages and henna art, as attendees sported large hats and summer attire.
The polo team representing Teen Cancer America included professional Argentine players like Ernie Ezcurra and Alejandro Nordheimer while amateur players like Hannah Taylor and Lynda Murray got their chance at a victory.
“This will be an exciting day to remember at Will Rogers Field that will help us provide critical services for young people who need our support,” TCA Executive Director Simon Davies said in a press release ahead of the event.
“Enjoying an afternoon of polo lets us put an English spin on things and celebrate our history, all for a great cause.”
