Though several Palisadian contenders were up for Emmys at this year’s ceremony, Marquez Knolls resident Bill Hader walked away with multiple awards.
Hader, along with Alec Berg, took home the award for Writing for a Comedy Series, as well as Director for a Comedy Series.
He also won Lead Actor in a Comedy series for a second year in a row, beating fellow Palisadians Don Cheadle for “Black Monday” and Eugene Levy for “Schitt’s Creek.”
Among Palisadians up for awards this year were Julia Louis-Dreyfus for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in “Veep,” who was beat by Phoebe Waller-Bridge in “Fleabag.”
Theatre Palisades-trained Amy Adams, who was vying for her first Emmy, did not take home a win for Lead Actress in a Limited Series of Movie for “Sharp Objects,” which went to Michelle Williams for “Fosse/Verdon.”
“Schitt’s Creek,” “Barry” and “Veep”—all featuring Palisadians—were beat out by “Fleabag” for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Hader—a writer for “Documentary Now!”—lost to “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” in Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and “Saturday Night Live” for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.
And though Alex Borstein, winner of Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Susie Myerson in Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” is not a Palisadian, her character’s signature plunger made an appearance at Palisades Village earlier this summer as part of a promotion for the series.
Overall, the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, which aired on Fox, brought in about 6.9 viewers—a record-low turnout. The audience was 33% below last year’s 10.2 million viewers on NBC.
