Palisades High’s girls water polo team might not have been the best City team in the pool in 2019-20, but it was the best in an even more important arena—the classroom.
The Dolphins, who lost to Birmingham by one goal in the City finals and again in the SoCal Regional Division III semifinals, accumulated a collective 3.69 GPA to top all schools in their sport. They were the only Palisades team to earn the academic award in the winter season.
Last season Palisades won its first City girls water polo title and afterwards then-junior Sydney Brouwer was awarded the sport’s inaugural “Champion of Honor and Character Medal” for her caring, citizenship, fairness, respect, responsibility and trustworthiness.
Other Winter Academic Team Award winners for the City were Belmont (boys basketball and girls wrestling); Granada Hills (girls basketball, boys wrestling and boys soccer); and New West Charter (girls soccer).
