Former Palisadian and television writer David E. Kelley’s “Big Shot” debuted its second season on Disney+ on Wednesday, October 12.
The show is described as a “sports dramedy streaming television series,” which was developed by Kelley (“Big Little Lies”) along with Dean Lorey (“Arrested Development”), based on an original idea by Brad Garrett.
John Stamos stars in the series as a “temperamental coach named Marvyn Korn who must endure a coaching and teaching gig at an all-girls elite private school after being fired from his previous job,” according to Collider.
“After he is ousted from his position as head coach for an NCAA basketball team, he is given a chance at redemption with a coaching position at Westbrook, an elite private high school for girls,” according to Deadline. “He soon learns that the teenage players require empathy and vulnerability—foreign concepts for the stoic Coach Korn.”
The trailer for the second season of “Big Shot” revealed a number of changes in the show, including a shift from an all-girls to a co-ed campus, goals to reach a new division, aspiring relations and more.
“In season two of ‘Big Shot,’ Marvyn Korn returns to Westbrook with a new fire, ready to show that his basketball team belongs in D-2 and that he’s still the championship-winning, powerhouse coach he was in the NCAA,” according to a synopsis by Disney+.
In an Instagram post, Stamos shared that this season also highlights the inequality of men’s sports versus women’s sports.
He also touched on his character’s relationship with Holly (Jessalyn Gilsig), sharing that Marvyn begins to view her as his equal and she helps ground him in the show.
“To me, this show is about family, it’s about heart, it’s about inclusion,” he added. “I think we really nailed that … In its DNA, it’s girl-power, it’s a celebration of women.”
“Big Shot” stars Sophia Mitri Schloss, Yvette Nicole Brown, Nell Verlaque, Tiana Le, Tisha Custodio, Cricket Wampler, Sara Echeagaray, Samuel Taylor and Charlie Hall.
All 10 episodes of “Big Shot” season two are available for streaming exclusively on Disney+.
