The Palisadian-Post has partnered with locally founded environmental organization Resilient Palisades to deliver a “green tip” to our readers in each newspaper. This edition’s tip was written by Sheda Morshed, Janice Crystal and Susan Fairbairn of the Clean Air & Water Team.
The Resilient Palisades Clean Air & Water Team has been working hard for the past two years to identify the best approach to removing noisy, polluting gas-powered leaf blowers.
Many people don’t realize that this antiquated equipment is spewing methane and carcinogenic fumes, but we all know how disruptive the sound of gas blowers is to our peace and tranquility.
After speaking with homeowners and gardeners, we created a campaign to help gardeners get CORE (CA’s Clean Off-Road Equipment Voucher Incentive Project) approved electric blowers that provide two- to three-times longer battery life and force. (This commercial equipment costs approximately $3,500 for the blower and two batteries.)
We signed up over 90 gardeners through local events and created fundraising packets for homeowners. Thanks to the generosity of a few angel donors, homeowners and a state rebate program, we are working with these gardeners to meet our goals.
Replacing these gas blowers could eliminate both air and noise pollution from our community. We need your help to get the remaining gardeners over the finish line. We are hoping to raise $30,000 to help cover the cost of this essential but expensive equipment.
Together, we can create a quieter, cleaner Palisades.
