Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building”—which stars Former Honorary Mayor of Pacific Palisades Martin Short, Selena Gomez and Steve Martin—has returned to the streaming service for its third season, which premiered on Tuesday, August 8.
In the true crime parody, Short is joined by longtime friend Martin and Gomez in the Upper West Side of New York, forming a trio of murder-mystery podcast devotees.
The first season of the show followed the three as they found themselves in the middle of a death investigation, documenting the quest on their own podcast.
“‘Only Murders in the Building’ follows three strangers … who share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one,” according to Hulu. “When a grisly death occurs inside their exclusive … apartment building, the trio suspects murder and employs their precise knowledge of true crime to investigate the truth. As they record a podcast of their own to document the case, the three unravel the complex secrets of the building, which stretch back years. Perhaps even more explosive are the lies they tell one another.”
The show’s second season came to a close in August 2022, and fans, left with a cliffhanger, have been eager for season three to reveal the answers to all their questions.
Season three also brings familiar and new faces to the screen: Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd, Cara Delevingne, Amy Schumer and Ashley Park are among the cast members joining Short, Gomez and Martin.
Creators of the show revealed that season three of “Only Murders in the Building” might actually steer its focus to Short’s character, Oliver Putnam.
“If season one was a little more focused on the emotional storyline for Mabel and Tim Kono, and season two was a little more emotionally connected to Charles and his relationship with his father and himself, I’m very excited to both lean into the theatrical side of New York City and also into Oliver and his world,” showrunner John Hoffman said to The Hollywood Reporter.
Gomez commented to The Wrap that she believes season three is the “best season yet.”
“Only Murders in the Building” has continued to score major praise. The show recently earned 11 Emmy Award nominations, including Short in Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Comedy Series. Both Short and Martin were nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2022.
The series is available to stream on Hulu.
