Albert George Flutie, a frequent and regular visitor to Pacific Palisades, passed away peacefully at the Palisades home of his family on June 5 at age 93. He was surrounded and comforted by his immediate family at the time of his passing.
Born on September 9, 1919 in Zahlé, Lebanon, Albert, the son of an Italian father and Lebanese mother, spent his entire life as a devoted husband, father, grandparent and uncle. In his professional career he was a passionate photographer and photojournalist.
Having secured the distinguished honor of being one of the first Associated Press photojournalists in the Middle East, Flutie went on to become appointed The Royal Photographer to His Majesty King Hussein of Jordan from 1943 through 1968.
Among his many accolades and achievements with the AP, while stationed in Jordan, Albert was extremely proud of the historical library that he created in covering the Seven Day War, English rule in the region and King Hussein’s diplomatic outreach during some of the most tumultuous times in Middle East history.
At the behest of Robert F. Kennedy (whom he met in 1966), Albert accepted the invitation to immigrate to the United States in 1968 with his wife Victoria and sons Charles, Michael and Robert. With original plans to settle in Santa Monica, a chance event kept them in New York City, where Albert quickly rose to regional prominence as the distinguished school photographer to all of the elementary schools in the five boroughs of NYC. He ultimately expanded his creative photographic efforts to include weddings, communions, bar mitzvahs, proms and other special occasions. His passion was to capture life through his lens.
A soccer enthusiast, Albert enjoyed playing the piano, listening to all forms of music playing backgammon, and spending time with his family and friends.
Albert was predeceased by his first wife, Victoria, in 1996. He is survived by his sister Janet; wife Alvina; sons Charles of DeLand, Florida, Michael of New York and Venice, and Robert of Pacific Palisades; daughter-in-laws April and Maryann; and seven wonderful grandchildren: Alexander, Catherine, Armand, Zeyna, Nadia, Marcello and Ava Flutie.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 15 at Corpus Christi Church in Pacific Palisades.
The family respectfully asks that donations to the church (880 Toyopa Drive) be made in lieu of gifts or expressions of condolence.
