Local artists will have work on display at Will Rogers Historic State Park next week for another outdoor exhibition by the Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore.
Palisadian landscape painters Russell Hunziker and Susan Flanigan will be among the 15 artists sharing their wares and meeting park-goers on Sunday, Oct. 8.
It’s the seventh consecutive year that Will Rogers has hosted an Allied Artists show, but the first time the event has coincided with the park’s popular polo club tournament.
“It’s one of our favorite locations,” Hunziker told the Post. “We’re really looking forward to having the extra people there and hopefully they’ll come over and see us.”
The Allied Artists generally have four shows each year, set in scenic locales and featuring art that celebrates the natural beauty of the Santa Monica Mountains and surrounding areas.
A percentage of the proceeds from each of their shows benefits nearby parks and environmental groups that help preserve and maintain open spaces.

In the past year, the group contributed to the Palisades Village Green and a Los Angeles wildlife corridor preservation group for the first time.
Hunziker told the Post that outdoor exhibitions like the Will Rogers show are a great way for artist-members to share both their work and their mission with the public.
The shows can attract more than just straightforward art enthusiasts, he added—oftentimes, he strikes up conversation with a passing hiker who simply recognizes the landscape in one of his works.
Allied Artists also host a free monthly “paint-out” on the second Saturday of each month, featuring a painting demonstration and friendly critiques.
The Oct. 8 Will Rogers exhibit and sale will take place between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Park-goers who bring a copy of this article to Will Rogers State Historic Park on Oct. 8 can receive half-off parking.
