The arts community will gather in Will Rogers State Historic Park on Sunday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the eighth annual art exhibition and sale, hosted by the longstanding Allied Artists of Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore organization.
“Featuring 15 local fine artists, the exhibit and sale will display original, representational landscape paintings of the Santa Monica Mountains and beaches to promote appreciation of our environment and to support conservation and maintenance of the [156,000-acre] Santa Monica Recreation Area and parks,” the press release states.
Historically, paintings from the Allied Artists have depicted endangered, fire-ravaged land, rolling hills of Malibu and beloved coastlines in addition to familiar cultural sites and landmarks such as Griffith Observatory and Pacific Coast Highway.
Palisadians Susan Flanigan and Russell Hunziker, who sits on the board, are included among the artists on display this year—the latter whom has been a resident since 1986.
“I feel passionate about locals supporting the area, and this event is a great opportunity for people to come out and enjoy everything that Will Rogers has offer, especially the [67-mile] backbone trail,” Hunziker told the Palisadian-Post over the phone.
He explained that Allied Artists has 20 years of work under its belt; its activity is characterized by artists “getting together and painting outside.”
The organization produces four exhibition shows per year, of which portions of sales are donated to conservation groups that raise the bar for environmental education and public awareness.
