Jordan won the men’s 400-meter freestyle Thursday at USA Swimming’s Winter National Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, his second victory in two days. He was third after the opening 50-meter lap and second until taking the lead in the seventh of the eight-lap race, winning in three minutes, 50.78 seconds. The 24-year-old from Sunset Mesa won the 800-meter freestyle Wednesday in 7:56.88. Jordan won the men’s 10-kilometer open water race at the 2015 FINA World Championships and was fifth in the event in the 2016 Olympics.Jordan graduated from Malibu High in 2012 and finished his collegiate swimming career at Northwestern in 2017. He began swimming at the age of 9 to qualify for the LA County Fire Department’s Junior Lifeguard Program at Will Rogers State Beach, but he failed to meet the time standard in his first attempt. He joined the swim team at the Palisades-Malibu YMCA in 2004 and subsequently was able to qualify for the Junior Lifeguard Program.
