A good time was had by all at the 49th annual Optimist/YMCA Youth Track Meet last Sunday morning on the Carl Lewis Track at Palisades High’s Stadium by the Sea.
Sponsored by the Optimist Club of Pacific Palisades and organized by Palisades-Malibu YMCA Executive Director Jim Kirtley, the event featured 19 aspiring young athletes from 3 to 12 years of age competing in four track events (25-meter dash, 50-meter dash, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash) and two field events (javelin and long jump).
Participating this year were David Birdzell, Kaydien Byars, Dylan Davis, Caden Dorsey, Carter Dorsey, Roham Gilbert, Sydney Graff, Olivier Gross, Sebastien Gross, Dominic Humphreys, Sloane Johnson, Mackenzie Monaghan, Ava Montminy, Ella Montminy, Ethan Montminy, Sawyer Oles, Tristan Oles, Christopher Von Der Ohe and Julian Von Der Ohe.

The competition started shortly after 9 a .m. with warm-ups at midfield and ended by noon with a 4×100 family relay race. All participants received a t-shirt and ribbons for each event in which they competed. This year’s event included adult 25, 50 and 100-meter races for “in shape” parents who wanted to do more than just watch their children.
