For the last 16 years, Region 69 of the American Youth Soccer Organization, encompassing Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Topanga and parts of Santa Monica, has held a Sportsmanship Tournament for its 8U divisions. The tradition continued Saturday at Will Rogers State Historic Park as 24 boys teams played a round robin.
Andrew Sacks and Jonathan Ephraim spent several weeks coordinating all aspects of the tournament and Area Referee Administrator Tim Reynolds managed morning referee assignments.
Sportsmanship trophies were awarded to two teams: Coach Deron McCoy’s Orange Justice Tigers, consisting of Paxton Clark, Henry Held, Cade McCoy, Musa Mohammed, Conner Nocas, John von Oeyen and Franklin Wade; and .Coach Blake Tucker’s Cool Blue Lightning, consisting of Max Corden, Henry Hill, Finn Hocking, Lincoln McCannel, Rhys Scheflen, Vincent Schneider, Luke Sibley and Hudson Tucker.
Pool winners were as follows:
Pool A—Coach Mani Zadeh’s Golden Champions; Pool B—Coach Blake Tucker’s Cool Blue Lightning; Pool C—Coach Tommy Isola’s Blue Dinos; Pool D—Coach Larry Miller’s Eagles; Pool E—Coach Zach Axelrod’s Gray Storm; Pool F—Coach Emil Schneeman’s White Lightning Riders.
The 8U girls tournament is this Saturday, also at Will Rogers.
