The opening reception for Werner Bokelberg’s exhibit, ‘Every Eye Forms Its Own Beauty,’ at Gallery 169 will be held on Saturday, March 24, from 5-9 p.m. at the gallery, 169 W. Channel Rd. in Santa Monica Canyon. Included in the show are photographs shot between 1965 and 1973 of Andy Warhol, Romy Schneider and Pablo Picasso. In 1966, Bokelberg spent one week at Salvador Dali’s home in Port Lligat, Spain on the Costa Brava, and 27 prints of Dali and seven vintage images taken during that time will also be exhibited. Dali agreed to the reportage with only one demand: ‘A beautiful model needs to be included to spark his magic.’ The blond Danish model Lotte Tarp was chosen, and Dali was utterly intrigued by her hipbones. In a career spanning 50 years, Bokelberg has traveled the world photographing people with the fundamental belief that ‘every eye forms its own beauty.’ His photographs are regarded by many as both pioneering and inspirational; they have a cosmopolitan nature and yet remain timeless classics. A Bokelberg image can be defined as one that has the emotional power to draw us in, to resonate basic emotions of humanity: affection, free spirit, intrigue and spontaneity. Over the years, he has also amassed an extraordinary collection of photographic images by the legends of photography. Editors, ad agencies and global brands have chosen Bokelberg’s images more than 80,000 times, making him the most published photographer in the world. He has done photography for numerous advertising campaigns, including Lufthansa and Deutsche Bank. ‘I create situations in which models are themselves,’ he states. ‘The eye that is able to recognize Individuality and beauty will discover them in every one of my pictures.’
