Confidence was sky high for the Palisades High boys soccer team entering Monday’s makeup game at Fairfax.
The Dolphins were coming off a 7-0 rout of Westchester and were sitting atop the Western League standings. They boarded the bus two hours later still in first place and in control of their own destiny, but perhaps with a little less swagger after a 1-0 loss to the host Lions.
“They scored in the last minute off a free kick that we didn’t clear properly,” Pali High Coach Dave Suarez said. “We didn’t put in a great effort and we didn’t work as a team defensively. [Goalkeeper] Cole Llorens played well. The goal wasn’t his fault.”
Palisades dropped to 7-1-1 in league, but remained one and a half games ahead of second-place Fairfax (5-2-2) heading into yesterday’s contest at University (result unavailable at press time).
Scoring was certainly not an issue for the Dolphins against Westchester last Friday at Stadium by the Sea.
Angel Gomez scored twice, Luis Lemus, Gerardo Martinez, Spencer Tidball and Sammy Darvish each added a goal and Isaac Payne scored on a penalty kick for the Dolphins, who host LACES tomorrow and wrap up league play next friday at Venice.
