The Yogurt Shoppe and Working With Autism co-hosted a picnic fundraiser on Sunday at the Palisades Recreation Center.
Amazing Music provided background music for the event, and Marsha Gay Hardin, who has starred in films such as “First Wives Club” and “The Hoax” and won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in “Pollock,” was the emcee.
The guest speaker was Matthew Adler, Southern California director of Autism Speaks, a worldwide advocacy organization dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. The nonprofit was founded in 2005.
At the park, children participated in several carnival games such as a basketball toss, a Frisbee game and a high striker; played in a bouncy house; had their faces painted; and had balloon figures created for them by balloon sculptor Adam Thomason.
There were raffles for gift cards, T-shirts and a bicycle from Helen’s Cycles.
Merchants that helped sponsor the event were Kier Design, Marc Michel Eyewear, Matthew’s Garden Cafe, Mayberry, Chez Mimi, Puzzle Zoo, Sandy Days Kids Camp, Puzzle Zoo, Special Fit, Black Ink, Druscilla Aphson, Gerry Blanck Martial Arts, Helen’s Cycles, Intima, Jaimie Geller Jewelry, Juice Crafters and the Palisadian-Post.
