After years of dreams and negotiations, developer Rick Caruso broke ground for the Palisades Village Project on Swarthmore Avenue on Friday, Oct. 28. He was aided by Mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti (left) and Councilmember Mike Bonin (right) who said the project was unique, in his experience, in its 90-percent positive feedback. Caruso, in a surprisingly tieless moment of celebration, promised it would be the kind of village that in the past taught humankind how to live together. He joked with the audience saying, “I envy you who can live in the Palisades while I live in Brentwood, that dump down the road.” The 2.8-acre retail and park site is due to open in two years time.
