What a memorable senior debut it was for Harvard-Westlake High girls varsity soccer standout Courtney O’Brien.
She scored not one, not two, but three goals for the Wolverines in Wednesday night’s 6-1 season-opening triumph over 12-time City Section champion El Camino Real.
After tallying twice in the first half, O’Brien netted her team’s final goal with 10 minutes remaining to complete the hat trick.
“Our mentality was to be selfless tonight,” said O’Brien, who lives near the Getty Villa. “We were focusing on sharing the ball. It was a test to see what our season’s going to like and we’re ready to give it our all every game.”
O’Brien made the All-CIF Southern Section Division 1 first team after leading the Wolverines to their third straight Mission League title last season. She led the division in scoring with 22 goals and 11 assists and the Princeton commit has picked up right where she left off.
Along with fellow Palisadians Quinn Frankel (a junior) and Alex Jackson (a senior), O’Brien hopes to kick Harvard-Westlake all the way to the CIF finals after the Wolverines were upset in the semifinals by Santa Margarita last season.
