Pali High boys lacrosse coach Bryan Cuthbert shares how the youth program started.
It was hard to tell who was having more fun at Saturday morning’s youth lacrosse clinic at Lueders Park in Compton — the 50 elementary school children or Palisades High boys coach Bryan Cuthbert, who directed the free camp put on by the Los Angeles Lacrosse League and William Morris Endeavor.
“It was a real privilege to do this today,” Cuthbert said. “It’s great to see this kind of turnout and we appreciate all the support from Palisades for the financial and equipment donations. It means so much to these kids! Our goal is for all of them to eventually have their own gear.”
The clinic was for kids from kindergarten through fifth grade and among the older players who volunteered to teach the beginners were Pali High players Andrew Davidson and Jake Takakjian, who are looking forward to helping the Dolphins repeat as City Section champions. Davidson is entering his senior year and Takakjian is an incoming freshman.
“Coach emailed me about it and I thought it would be cool,” said Takakjian, who took up the sport in sixth grade at Paul Revere Middle School. “The game’s been fun for me, so why not share it?”
