Palisadian television writer David E. Kelley has developed and executive produced “Big Shot,” which is set to be streaming soon on Disney+.
The show is described as a “sports dramedy streaming television series,” which was developed by Kelley (“Big Little Lies”) along with Dean Lorey (“Arrested Development”), based on an original idea by Brad Garrett.
John Stamos will star in the series as a “temperamental coach named Marvyn Korn who must endure a coaching and teaching gig at an all-girls elite private school after being fired from his previous job,” according to Collider.
In a recently released trailer, Coach Korn starts at the school, bringing a set of new rules to the team that the girls are reluctant to play by, with one member even pitching that everyone quits so he will be fired. The preview shows the girls coming around to the idea of him being at the head of the team.
“After watching you play, I truly believe we can do something special,” Stamos shared as the coach during the trailer, “but we’re just getting started.”
Jessalyn Gilsig takes on the role of Holly Barrett, a “good humored, down-to-earth assistant coach,” and Yvette Nicole Brown is Sherilyn Thomas, the “no-nonsense dean of the high school.”
Rounding out the stars of the show are Richard Robichaux, Sophia Mitri Schloss, Nell Verlaque, Tiana Le, Monique Green, Tisha Custodio and Cricket Wampler. Keala Settle and Emery Kelly have recurring roles.
“This is a story of evolution and growth,” Stamos wrote in an Instagram caption about “Big Shot.” “While he transforms the team, the girls transform him; internally, as a coach, and in his most important role, as a father. I love this show! Let me know what you think of the trailer.”
According to reports, Disney+ first ordered a 10-episode, one-hour-long dramedy based on Garrett’s idea, who pitched to Kelley and developed it along with Lorey. Principal photography began in November 2019, with production reported to be halted in March 2020 at the start of the pandemic.
Architectural Digest reported that Kelley and his wife, actress Michelle Pfeiffer, purchased a $22.5 million Mediterranean-style home in Pacific Palisades in January 2020—shortly after they sold another home in the neighborhood for just over $9 million.
The pilot episode of “Big Shot” is set to air on Tuesday, April 16. Episode two and three, “The Marvyn Korn Effect” and “TCKS,” are set to release over the next two Tuesdays.
