Dear Vany,
This is the first year my parents aren’t making me go to summer camp. What are some fun things I can do this summer?
—Don’t Want to be Bored
Dear Don’t Want to be Bored,
Summer is a super fun time, as long as you’re doing the right things! Here are a few ideas of fun things to do over summer!
Plan a bake sale with your friends! All you need is a few boxes of cake mix, a sign, and a table, and you’ve got yourself a bake sale! Bonus Points if you donate the proceeds to a charity!
Make beaded jewelry! Trust me, you’ll be busy for hours once you pick up a piece of elastic and a bead kit, because you can make so many different things! From phone charms, to bracelets, to necklaces and anklets, beading jewelry is a super fun activity, that you could even start a small business out of!
Go to a drive in movie with your friends! You may think that drive in movies haven’t been happening for many years, but there are actually many places in LA that have them. They are a very fun, easy, and covid-safe alternative to a normal movie.
Paint a tote bag! Who doesn’t want a personalized bag? This activity is so creative!
I hope you have the best summer ever!

Dear Vany,
My sister is graduating high school this
year and going to college next year. I am going to miss her! What are some ways we can stay in touch?
—Long-Distance Sisters
Dear Long-Distance Sisters,
I understand how hard this could be! But, there are easy ways to stay in touch! We all know the #1 best way to talk to someone far away, which is FaceTime. So, my first suggestion is to find a standing, specific time in the week where you FaceTime her.
Another great way is writing letters. It may seem old fashioned, but getting a handwritten letter in the mail and writing back is a really cool and fun way to connect with someone in a different way!
Also, send pictures of what’s going on in your lives to each other! If you have a school dance, or go to an interesting place, take a picture and send it to her, and have her do the same! This will make it feel like you’re right there with her.
My last tip is to make your visits count. Make sure that when you visit each other, you spend lots of time together and cherish your sisterly bond. Even though college is time consuming, I’m 100% sure you guys will always find time to stay in touch!
Thank you for writing!
From,
Vany
