The Pacific Palisades Democratic Club will host the Froehich-Berke Political Courage Awards on Sunday, November 3, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Le Méridien Delfina Hotel in Santa Monica.
The evening will include honoring Robert Reich, an American economist, professor, author and political commentator who served in the administrations of Presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. He was secretary of labor from 1993-97 and a member of President Barack Obama’s economic advisory board.
Reich, who will speak on his book “The Common Good,” will be introduced by social activist and actor Mike Farrell. Comedian Paula Poundstone, who emceed the awards event in 2016, will return this year.
“With the brilliant mind of Robert Reich, the eloquence of Mike Farrell and the incredible humor of Paula Poundstone, we’re confident the event will be memorable,” a representative of the Democratic Club said ahead of the event.
Previous recipients of the Froehlich-Berke Political Courage Human Rights Awards include Senator Barbara Boxer, Campaign for a Healthy California Co-Chair Dr. Paul Song, Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipient Dolores Huerta and author/activist Ron Kovic.
Funds raised at the event will go toward supporting a Westside Democratic Headquarters for the 2020 elections.
