As another season begins, the goal remains the same for the Palisades High boys water team: win the City championship.
The Dolphins are pursuing their fifth consecutive crown and although they lost several of their best players to graduation, including top scorers Zach Senator and Kian Lotfi and playmaker Mitchell Kim, they still have plenty of firepower and, more importantly, experience playing with together.
“Our starters have been playing together for four years now and they’re a cohesive unit,” head coach Adam Blakis said. “We are anxious to start playing games.”
Brandon Epp returns to protect the goal and leading the attack at the other end of the pool will be Gabby Feizbakhsh, Quinn Godfredsen, Lucas Silva, Theo Trask and Isai Elias.
“Zach and Kian scored a ton of goals for us last season, but a lot of us worked hard over the summer and we’ll have a very strong team again,” Silva said. “Our defense is very strong and we’re going to push more on offense and work as a team. We’ll take a counter when it’s there, but mostly we’re going to work a lot on moving the ball and driving.”
The Dolphins open the season Sept. 9-10 at the Conejo Classic in Thousand Oaks. They travel to crosstown rival Santa Monica on Sept. 14 and the next three days play in the Malibu Tournament at Malibu High. They are also entered in the South Bay Classic at Mira Costa in mid-October.
Western League play begins Sept. 26 against San Pedro.
Palisades routed Birmingham 19-3 at Valley College last fall in the most lopsided final in City Section history.
Kim predicted afterwards that this year’s team would be even better. Time to prove him right.
