Knowing that the long season is a marathon not a sprint, the athletes from Palisades High were eager to test themselves against Southern Caifornia’s best last Friday and Saturday at the Nike Redondo Track Festival.
The Dolphins’ best finishes came in the frosh/soph girls 3200 meters, where freshman Miranda Schriver (the City Section cross country champion in the fall) took third in 11:20.92 and in the frosh/girls triple jump, where sophomore Jane Nwaba (the top scorer on Pali High’s varsity girls basketball team in the winter) leaped 30 feet, four inches.
Palisades’ varsity girls 4×400 relay was sixth in 4:26.13 anf the varsity girls 4×800 was seventh in 10:02.72. Erica Bagby was 13th in the varsity girls pole vault at nine feet, nine inches and Schriver also placed 26th in the varsity girls 1600 in 5:26.62. City two-mile champion Sarah Bentley was 42nd and Jessica Bierschenk was 45th in the varsity girls 3200. Brittany Darrow (2:22.39) was 12th in the varsity girls 800.
Mason Cadden (4:45.82) was 22nd in the frosh/soph boys 1600. Lucas Schriver (10:10.81) and Alec Stewart (10:13.48) were 23rd and 27th in the frosh/soph boys 3200. Nnamdi Onwaoze (53.82) was fourth in the frosh/soph boys 400. Rayne Camden (51.62) was 10th in the varsity boys 400 race.
