FC Pali, an AYSO Region 69 boys U11 Extra team won the Area championship last weekend in Torrance.
After making it all the way to the state finals in Davis last year and posting an impressive 11-2-1 record this season, the local team defeated Westchester and North Torrance by 4-1 scores to advance to the Sectionals in Riverside, where it will represent an area stretching from the Palisades, east to Pasadena and south to Palos Verdes.
With the game tied 1-1 in the fourth quarter, Jonah Koepke, Jonathan Smiley and Cooper Morrow scored to put away Westchester. In the final against North Torrance, goalie Lane Johnson kept Pali in the game until leading scorer Cooper Robinson scored twice off assists from Jacob Winthrop to clinch the victory.
Rounding out the squad, coached by Adam Davis and Eric Winthrop, were Jack North, Peter Sussman, Michael Kavounas, Alberto Levi and Addison Davis.
Joining the team for Sectionals on March 2 will be Owen Hooper, Gus Wibbelsman and Joshua Davood.
