Nearing the end of its five-week run, “Bell, Book & Candle” is set to close after its final performance on Saturday, July 8.
“The romantic comedy is about one of the few modern people who can actually cast spells and perform feats of magic,” according to a synopsis shared by Theatre Palisades. “But after Gillian Holroyd casts a spell over her upstairs neighbor, Shep, a handsome already-spoken-for book publisher, she has to make a choice between falling in love and becoming a mortal, or maintaining her loyalty to her sorcerer family (and her magical powers). And when Shep finds out about her powers, he is forced to make a decision too.”
The show, directed by Brandon Polanco, stars Jasmine Haver at Gillian, Andrew Cereghino as Shep, with Laura Goldstein as Aunt Queenie, Jeff Coppage as Nick and Michael Anthony Nozzi as Redlitch. It is produced by Martha Hunter and Maria O’Connor.
“Written and produced in 1950, I have found this play to be ahead of its time in understanding witches and magic,” Polanco wrote in the Director’s Notes section of the playbill. “A witch is neither male nor female; it is a human being who believes in magic as a way of life.”
Two shows remain on Friday, July 7, and Saturday, July 8—both at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22 for adults, and $20 for seniors and students. All performances take place at Pierson Playhouse, located at 941 Temescal Canyon Road.
