Former Palisades Charter High School girls tennis captain Jade Finestone is getting plenty of court time—and plenty of wins—as a freshman at Colby College, an NCAA Division III program in Waterville, Maine.
Having graduated from Pali High in June, Finestone has started her collegiate career fast, posting a 5-1 record in singles and a 2-1 mark in doubles.
Finestone and partner Isabella Suk won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles and Finestone won her match at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1 in a Sunday, October 1, 9-0 victory over Endicott in the Mules’ first dual match of the season.
In her collegiate debut September 9 and 10 at the Wallach Invitational on the campus of Bates College in Lewiston, Finestone won her first two singles matches in straight sets before falling 10-8 in a super tiebreaker in the quarterfinals. In doubles, she and Suk won their first-round pro set versus Trinity 8-0 before dropping their quarterfinal match 8-2.
At the ITA Regionals (hosted by Wesleyan College in Middletown, Connecticut) Finestone was one of seven Mules in singles, and scored victories over players from Brandeis and Middlebury to reach the quarterfinals before weather prevented the conclusion of the tournament.
In November, Finestone won two of her sets at No. 1 singles to help Pali High capture its 29th City Section team title with a 15.5 to 14 victory over Granada Hills, then paired with Dolphins teammate Anaya Ayanbadejo to reach the City Individual doubles final.
Finestone was a member of three straight City championship teams in her four years at Palisades.
