Gathering on the Village Green last Sunday morning, friends and colleagues saluted Roberta Donohue, who served as publisher of the Palisadian-Post from 1987 until this January 31, when the newspaper, under new ownership, completed its restructuring.
“We’re here to celebrate the great contributions Roberta has made to this town over her lifetime,” said emcee Sam Lagana, who noted that her father, Rocco Ross, owned the Mobil Station across Sunset, and that she grew up in the Marquez Knolls neighborhood and graduated from Palisades High. Donohue spent her entire working career at the Post, starting in 1972.
Past Chamber of Commerce president David Williams praised Donohue’s active leadership role in the Chamber since 1986 and emphasized how she was “always giving back to the community” through her involvement in events such as the Classic Car Show, Movies in the Park and Holiday Ho!Ho!Ho!
In her remarks, Donohue expressed her appreciation for everybody’s support (12 former Citizens of the Year were in attendance) and said, “My job was much more than crunching numbers and selling printing. My role was building community relationships.”
Donohue continued, “I’m proud to say that my former employers, the Small Newspaper Group, recognize the importance of community and want me to continue on with my work here … I have been rehired [by the SNG] as a consultant to represent their name as I continue the work for our community.”
