Chelsey Gipson, a senior guard on the Loyola Marymount University women;s basketball team, scored a season-high 19 points in last Saturday’s 69-50 West Coast Conference loss to BYU in Provo.
She added four blocks, three rebounds and one assist in 30 minutes, going 3-of-6 from behind the three-point line.
Two nights later, Gipson had 15 points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal in a 74-64 home loss to San Diego. In 15 games this year she is averaging 10.3 points and 2.3 rebounds. She started 25 games as a junior, earning WCC Honorable Mention. She scored a career-high 29 points against Pepperdine her sophomore year when she led the Lions in points and made the All-WCC first team.
At the time she graduated from Palisades High in 2016, Gipson was the only prep girls player in California to win three CIF Open Division championships. After transferring from Windward as a sophomore, she led the Dolphins to back-to-back City titles and was named City MVP.
