Palisadians looking for a way to swing into fun this Memorial Day weekend have to look no further than El Medio Bluffs: Palisades Charter High School junior Sam Swartz is hosting a tournament at Miami Way Golf Course on Monday, May 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“I am most looking forward to meeting new community members and sharing my passion of golf with the neighbors/community members,” Swartz shared ahead of the event. “I hope to have golfers and non-golfers come on out just stop by and say hi and get to know your community a little better.”
Swartz has been playing golf since he was 6 years old. The Palisadian-Post Athlete of the Week and member of the Pali High golf team designed and built the two-hole, par six golf course, complete with a sand trap, at his Pacific Palisades home.
It took Swartz three months to construct the course, with multiple trips to the hardware store and nurseries, and many deliveries by a semi-truck. The putting green comes to the Palisades from Palm Springs.
He explained that maintaining the course throughout the rain this season was not bad and that it actually helped the grass grow lusher.
“Yes I could not go out and mow and take care of it as much during the rainy season, but the rain made the course look even more beautiful,” Swartz said.
Tournament participants will have a chance to see the beauty of the course this weekend. The winner will receive a medal, as well as a gift card to Palisades Garden Cafe. Members of Los Angeles Fire Department are scheduled to make an appearance.
“It’s a fun community event where community members can get to know each other and play two holes of golf,” Swartz said.
