The annual Optimist/YMCA Youth Track Meet was held May 21 at Palisades High’s Stadium by the Sea and several local athletes emerged as future stars.
In the girls’ 9-10 age group, Anne-Sophie Radford won the shot put with a throw of 13 feet, 3.5 inches and won the long jump with a leap of 9 feet, 9 inches. She also took second in the javelin and third in the 400-meter race. Saskia Santos won the javelin with a throw of 49 feet, 0.5 inches, won the 100-meter dash in 11.30 seconds, won the long jump and was second in the 200, 400 and shot put.
In the girls’ 7-8 division, Mae Durkin swept the sprint events, winning the 50 in 7.63, the 100 in 15.60, the 200 in 36.20 and the 400 in 1:18.46. She also placed second in the long jump (9-8), two inches behind Alexandra Mitchell.
In the boys’ 5-6 division, Connor Nocas won the 100 and 200 and in the 9-10 division Blake Sigworth won the 200 in 32.25, won the long jump (11-3.25) and took second in the 100 and javelin. Gage Santos won the shot put (12-0) and javelin (51-6) and was second in the 200.
In the 7-8 division, Theo Radford won the 100 in 14 flat and won the 200 in 36.81.In the 10-11 division, Owen Huang won the 100 in 14.4 and the 200 in 31.34.
