A $38 million home for sale in The Riviera brings that extra sparkle—its Realtor has revealed a subterranean border studded with citrine crystals. Such crystals are said to promote healing, boost all-round wellness and add an extra layer of protection to more conventional CCTV cameras and alarms.
Elizabeth Halsted of Berkshire Hathaway, who is selling the home, told Town & Country that the owners are leaving the crystals in the ground. It is not known which kind of citrine they are leaving behind. Citrine is a variety of quartz whose colors ranges from pale yellow (hence the 16th century French name) to smoky rose. They could be Brazilian natural stones or heat-treated amethysts. Either way they are a hot trend in home decor.
The current listing may be the first such promotion in the Palisades, but interior design companies such as Energy Muse and Cristalline have been installing discreet crystals into bedrooms and under floors for more than a decade. According to Cristalline, the new owners should respect the stones as a healthy reflection of the home’s past. Even if, as they are buried in the ground, they never see them.
“Much like a therapist might analyze your life experiences affecting your present state and provide tools to handle the emotional aspects of your life, we take a similar approach in exploring areas of your home life as a mirror to your present state,” said the gemstone dealers.
In Medieval times, citrine was used as protection against plagues and snake bites. Its healing properties are now championed by the likes of Kylie Jenner, Cara Delevingne, Miranda Kerr and Sam Smith. Adele reportedly carries a citrine with her when she performs on stage. Back in the day, Greta Garbo was an enthusiast of citrine
jewelry.
As well as promoting a spiritual sense of well being, crystals are believed to dispel negativity. This old European taste merges with Asian sensibilities in a very Californian way, as the stones are also said to improve the home’s feng shui.
