The Irene Dunne Guild will host “Think Pink for Women’s Wellness,” focused on “health education for women and their families,” on Wednesday, May 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Upper Bel-Air Bay Club.
“The Irene Dunne Guild, a support group of Saint John’s Health Center, created Think Pink over 18 years ago as a gathering meant to educate women on important health issues,” according to a press release from the organization.
The 2023 event, which is co-chaired by Lorena Craven and Palisadian Susie DeWeese, will feature “break-through lectures with notable physicians and speakers.” Throughout the history of the event, topics have included healthy brain aging, addiction, urology, dermatology and breast health.
“The event culminates with a wonderful luncheon held in the beautiful dining room of the Upper Bel-Air Bay Club overlooking the Pacific Ocean,” the press release continued. “Boutique shopping is available throughout the event with net proceeds benefiting programs, equipment and services at Providence Saint John’s Health Center.”
This year’s featured speaker is Dr. Meena Said, an endocrine surgeon, on the topic of “Wellness Worldwide: Treating Children with Cancer 8,000 Miles Away.”
“Dr. Said’s family fled Afghanistan as refugees when she was an infant,” according to the Guild’s website. “Today as an endocrine surgeon in Santa Monica, she remotely arranges care for critically ill children in her home country. Through her nonprofit, Wellness Worldwide, Dr. Said and a network of volunteer doctors deliver medical care and run a family clinic in a refugee camp in the Rodat district of Nangahar, Afghanistan.”
The Guild is celebrating 36 years as a “major support group of Saint John’s Health Center Foundation in Santa Monica,” having raised more than $17 million. The group includes more than 10 members, who are “committed to putting their hearts forward to find innovative ways to fundraise, comfort patients, educate their community and nurture the mission of providing compassionate care.”
Tickets for the event are $175. This year’s event capacity has been limited to 250 attendees, according to the Guild’s website. Attendees are asked to RSVP by April 10.
